NORTH AMERICAN SPECIALS and PROTOTYPES

Here are some never before published photos of "Golden Rod", taken by Richard Green in Dublin, CA. in 1966 (these are the only known photos of this vehicle when it was new!).

Left: is a rear view shot; Note the chrome bumperettes (made from a front bumper). Also note wheels, fender flairs (ala Defender), and Exhaust pipe that exits just ahead of rear tire. On the sides are Wind-Deflectors, which helped keep the rear window clean. Finally, note modified mud flaps and relocated reflectors.

Right: The only known photo of the custom dash, which housed gauges from a Rover P5. This was the first LR to have a key starter (no button). Note hand throttle and stereo on right of dash.

Middle: Aggressive front view. Note the chrome front bumper & grill.

En route to New York in 1966, Richard Green stops with Golden Rod at the Lincoln Memorial.

Land Rover Enthusiast was the most recent magazine to feature the GOLDEN ROD.
